Personal Growth

What is Personal Growth/Development?

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
Oscar Wilde

I had never really heard of personal growth until I started working with a network marketing company back in 2014. Then it became an expression I heard very often. It was something I took a big interest in as I really loved the idea of working on myself learning & growing to become a better person. I knew if I wanted to be successful, mindset and personal growth was something I definitely had to work hard at because I didn’t have much confidence or self-belief. For a long time, I had to borrow the belief my sponsor had in me until I got to the point where my own confidence started to grow as my knowledge did. I knew if I didn’t believe in myself how could anyone else, I had to change my ways and start believing this was something I could do. Becoming a team leader, speaking in front of people, Sharing your thoughts, etc. things very much out of my comfort zone (you will never grow if you stay in your comfort zone) was also a big part of the role. I needed to be able to inspire and motivate others, especially when their own belief was no longer there and they needed words of encouragement. This wasn’t always easy and involved a lot of mental battles with myself. I know now this was also the beginning of my spiritual awakening it was all in divine timing.

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

So I began following people on youtube like Les Brown, Tony Robbins, Abraham Hicks, Bob Proctor, Wayne Dyer and many more to help me with my mindset & Self-belief. I also followed a lot of the network marketing leaders like Ray Higdon, Jane Leech, Emma Cooper to see what they were doing to be so successful in the industry. I found the short motivational videos on youtube so helpful I could listen to 10 videos a day sometimes the same one over & over i found them very powerful. I bought lots of books like the Secret, the law of attraction, 7 Habits of successful people,& lots more. I bought CDs and basically turned my car into a classroom turning off the radio listening to something positive and inspiring. I stopped watching my weekly programmes and started to use my time more productively, reading something motivational even for 5 mins every day or saying positive affirmations over and over can make a massive difference to your life.

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”
Roy T. Bennett

Making these changes really did help build up my confidence and also realize that if its meant to be it really was up to me. There is so much potential and greatness in us all, but most of us never ever reach that potential because of fear and procrastination, this is something I can relate to in a big way. If your feeling guided or led to something, but it feels scary just trust and have faith in the universe it knows exactly where you’re meant to be. Don’t let fear or not feeling good enough stop you from pursuing what you know you’re here to do, live your dream life. The only thing you will regret on your death bed is not the things you did..BUT the things you didn’t do. The graveyard is the richest place in the world, so many people went to their graves with amazing songs we will never hear, Books that were never written, Inventions we never got to see, all because of fear or not feeling good enough. Don’t go to your grave with your song still inside you.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
George Eliot

That’s the reason it took me nearly 8 months to get this blog up and running. I was constantly criticizing myself thinking it wouldn’t be good enough or I was going to be judged all that negative self-talk we tell ourselves. But something I learned working with the network marketing company that stuck with me was “what other people think of me was none of my business“. People will always judge and put us down that’s life. My self-belief and self-worth is so strong now that I don’t need anyone else to believe in me. I just though F***K it, we will always be judged no matter what we do, I had to trust my intuition. I need to do what I believe is true for me & follow my soul calling. If I can help even one person from reading my posts then its all worth it. This wasn’t something that happened overnight its been a long process nearly 5 years working on myself now and it’s only the beginning, so much more learning and growing still to do it’s a journey, not a destination.

Basically, personal growth means improving yourself in all areas of development including mentally, emotionally, spiritually and socially to reach your potential. You’re actively growing and improving yourself to become a better person on all levels to make your life & relationships more productive, fulfilling & meaningful. Staying the same is comfortable, but it doesn’t help you achieve your goals or improve yourself in any way. When you start to work on your mindset and growth you get excited about life it becomes like a challenge to see just how much potential you have by learning new skill uncovering talents you didn’t realize you had. You really become aware of how much opportunities there are and how much life has to offer. When you decide to go for a dream and start putting in the action something magical happens, the universe will start to align you with the people, places, and things that will help you to reach these goals. “When the student is ready the teacher will appear”

The way you work on yourself varies depending on your own goals and what area of your life you want to improve. Start by figuring out how you want to improve yourself. Once you know what you want to do you need a plan for getting there. You will need to be open to new experiences and ideas. These experiences will give you new knowledge and may change your perspective by discovering new interests and having a stronger sense of self-awareness.

Personal Growth Could be any of the following, overcoming procrastination, learning to control your anger, be more polite & considerate, changing your mindset to become a more positive person, it doesn’t have to be massive life-altering changes. Personal growth is an ongoing process that starts from an early age but mostly shaped by parents, teachers and our environment. Sometimes, problems & difficulties are the triggers that awaken the desire to grow and lead to making changes in your life. Personal growth can help in all areas of your life mentally, emotionally, socially helping you become a more considerate positive person. It will help you see your mistakes and negative habits leading you to make better choices.

There are many things you can do like reading affirmations, visualization, meditation, listening to motivational speakers on youtube or podcasts, reading books, so many different things you can do. Counseling or coaching working with a mentor can really help with your development as well.
